New Endometriosis Tests Could Dramatically Reduce Diagnosis Wait Times, Report Suggests

Women suffering from endometriosis could soon see their diagnostic wait times reduced from years to mere days, according to recent reports on emerging medical technologies. The condition, which affects millions worldwide, currently has an average diagnostic delay of about a decade.

Inside Health is investigating a new generation of less invasive tests that aim to significantly cut down this waiting period. The focus is on understanding what these tests entail and evaluating their potential real-world efficacy. The report also highlights the extended journey many couples, including queer couples, face when trying to access fertility treatments, noting persistent hurdles even within the UK.

Additionally, as the clocks change with the onset of autumn, the program will explore the phenomenon of 'social jet lag.' This occurs when the body's internal clock is out of sync with societal schedules, often exacerbated by the shift in daylight hours. The segment will offer insights into why the initial days of these transitions are particularly challenging and provide strategies to ease the body's adjustment to both falling back in autumn and springing forward in March.

The program, presented by Laura Foster, is produced by Gerry Holt, with editing by Ilan Goodman. The production coordination is managed by Stu Laws, and the sound engineering by Sue Maillot. This show is a production of the BBC's Audio Science Unit, in collaboration with The Open University.
