New Details Emerge About Meghan Markle's Estrangement from Father

New information has surfaced that could offer a different perspective on Meghan Markle's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and her perceived estrangement from her family.

By 2019, Meghan had received disturbing allegations about her father from his first wife, Roslyn Loveless, according to a BBC report. Loveless's letter, which was shared with Meghan by the police, reportedly detailed accusations of sexual abuse against Thomas Markle. This information, shared at a time when Meghan was a working royal, may explain her decision to maintain distance and not bring her children to visit him, even after moving to the United States with her family.

It is understood that Meghan believed an investigation into these allegations was underway. The sensitive nature of this matter for her is underscored by its communication through official channels during her royal duties.

Further scrutiny of Meghan's actions arose in December 2025 when her father was hospitalized in the Philippines for a leg amputation. At the time, Thomas Markle expressed a desire to reconcile, stating, "I don't want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids." This period saw significant media attention regarding whether Meghan would reach out to her father. A letter was eventually delivered from Meghan to her father, which was initially assumed to be a gesture of goodwill.

However, with the benefit of hindsight, this episode appears more complex. The letter reportedly revealed that Meghan was aware of the allegations against her father and informed him that he would never see his grandchildren. Thomas Markle has vociferously denied all accusations, labeling them "sick lies" intended to damage his reputation.

His daughter, Samantha Markle, has also dismissed the claims, calling them "fake news" and "clickbait." She asserted on X, formerly Twitter, that there would be no legal action against her father due to a lack of evidence in "flimsy stories," and that he had no access to such content while frequently hospitalized. Samantha Markle has also questioned the credibility of the letter from their mother, Roslyn Loveless.

For years, Meghan has faced public criticism, accused of cutting ties with those close to her, including family and friends. Commentators in 2020 noted her alleged separation from her father, friends, and even Prince Harry's brother, Prince William.

While supporters point to racism and sexism as contributing factors to the criticism she has faced, this emerging narrative surrounding her father may prompt a re-evaluation of her past actions. The public perception of Meghan, with 22% holding a positive view and 49% disliking her according to a recent YouGov survey, suggests a significant challenge in winning broader public trust. The complexities of her personal story, now increasingly revealed, could lead to a more nuanced understanding of the Duchess of Sussex in the future.
