New Beauty Products Spotlighted for September

As September ushers in a new fashion season, the beauty industry is also seeing a wave of new products and ingredients. Innovations range from skin-healing sprays to sustainable packaging and makeup designed to enhance mature features.

Skin Saviors

Hypochlorous acid, a component naturally produced by white blood cells to combat bacteria and reduce inflammation, is gaining traction in skincare. Its disinfectant properties are being harnessed in new sprays designed to cleanse skin, treat blemishes, and calm redness without compromising the skin barrier. These sprays are effective not only for facial acne but also for body blemishes, eczema, and psoriasis. U.S. brand Prequel has launched its hypochlorous spray in the UK, achieving significant sales, while Elf Skin offers a more budget-friendly alternative.

Eco-Conscious Alternatives

Concerns over the environmental impact of aerosol sprays, including the release of volatile organic compounds that contribute to air pollution and global warming, are leading to the development of aerosol-free alternatives. Living Proof, known for its dry shampoo, has introduced an aerosol-free version. The styling brand Color Wow has also released an aerosol-free hairspray, demonstrating that effective products can be delivered without harmful packaging. These advancements address issues related to lung irritation, air quality, and the recyclability of pressurized metal containers.

Aromatic Innovations

Incense is experiencing a resurgence, moving beyond its niche origins to become a chic alternative to scented candles. The fragrance brand Le Labo offers incense sticks in some of its popular scents. Additionally, the London-based brand Droplet, which has collaborated with Seth Rogen's lifestyle brand Houseplant, offers low-smoke incense cones accompanied by a glass holder for tabletop protection.

Powder Cleansers Reimagined

Powder cleansers, a practice with ancient roots in Asia, are seeing a modern revival. Following the success of products like Dermalogica Microfoliant, new powder cleansers are emerging. Icon Skincare, from the founders of iS Clinical, has launched a cleansing powder that transforms into a foamy lather when mixed with water, providing gentle exfoliation. Deciem's bodycare brand Loopha also offers a powder wash designed for travel convenience.

Lip Enhancement for Mature Lips

A new category of 'lip blur' products aims to redefine lip makeup, particularly for mature mouths. Brands like L’Oréal Paris and Refy offer creamy matte lip products with a domed applicator. These formulations help to diffuse color along the lip line, creating a soft-focus effect that minimizes bleeding into fine lines and provides a plumping appearance.
