Netflix to Release Documentary on Daejon Love Romance Scam
The streaming giant is producing a documentary for its "Untold" series detailing the alleged scheme where Daejon Love posed as a 49ers player to defraud women.
Netflix is producing a documentary exploring the case of Daejon Love, who allegedly used the San Francisco 49ers brand to defraud more than two dozen women of over $1.3 million. The documentary, part of Netflix's "Untold" series, will be titled "Untold: Wide Deceiver."
Love reportedly maintained a persona as a 49ers wide receiver for more than two years before his arrest in August. The upcoming film is expected to feature firsthand accounts from individuals affected by the alleged scam.
News of the alleged romance scam, which involved Love posing as an NFL player, emerged earlier this year. Court documents indicate he and another individual, Taylor Jamie Chan, faced charges related to conspiracy and wire fraud. Love is accused of defrauding women, while Chan allegedly posed as his financial advisor.
Previously, one alleged victim, Gwen Herndon, reportedly submitted a complaint to the 49ers' website in December, eight months before Love's arrest. This account has been presented as challenging the 49ers' assertion that they were unaware of Love's alleged activities prior to his apprehension.
While the 49ers' current 5-0 season has overshadowed their offseason, the Netflix documentary is set to bring the Daejon Love saga back into public focus. A release date for "Untold: Wide Deceiver" has not yet been announced.
