Netflix Actor Critically Injured in Alleged 100 MPH Crash
Clayton Conroy faces a long recovery after a high-speed collision nearly claimed his life, impacting his burgeoning acting career.
A rising actor on the Netflix series “The Gringo Hunters” sustained life-threatening injuries after his car was allegedly struck by a vehicle traveling at over 100 mph. Clayton Conroy, 32, was on his way home from meeting friends when the April 19 crash occurred as he exited Interstate 10 in Los Angeles.
Conroy was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with a traumatic brain injury and fractures to his hip and shoulder. He was initially given a slim chance of survival. The actor subsequently underwent brain surgery and spent months relearning basic functions such as walking, speaking, reading, eating, drinking, and showering.
"Summer turned out a lot different than I ever thought it would. Got hit by a guy going over 100. Had brain surgery. Was supposed to die," Conroy posted on Instagram, sharing photos that documented his recovery. He added, "Spent my birthday in the hospital. Lost 20 pounds. Severed nerves in my arm and fractured bones in my leg. Still can’t walk."
Recalling the incident, Conroy told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that he remembers entering the exit lane and checking his rearview mirror just before the impact. "The road was looking as normal as it could, just lights on the road behind me," he said. "I did, perhaps, notice certain lights approaching quickly. From there, I woke up in the hospital."
Following a month-long stay at Cedars-Sinai, Conroy transitioned to outpatient cognitive, physical, and occupational therapy. He later stayed with his parents in Sacramento. His mother, Britt Crennell, expressed the difficulty of witnessing his recovery, stating, "To watch your son at 32 relearn to do things he could do when he was 2 is just disheartening."
Conroy's recovery journey has seen him progress from using a rollator to a cane, and he has recently begun walking short distances without assistance. Crennell described her son as a "walking miracle," though she noted his full recovery could take up to five years.
The crash occurred as Conroy was experiencing a career breakthrough. The Santa Cruz High School graduate had been cast as Padre Terry, an American Catholic priest, in “The Gringo Hunters.” The series premiered in July 2025 and quickly became one of Netflix’s top 10 non-English series.
In August, California Highway Patrol officers arrested Noor El Deen Amr Soror, a 19-year-old Anaheim resident, in connection with the crash. Soror faces charges of felony reckless driving causing major injuries, according to the Sentinel.
Despite the challenges, Conroy remains hopeful about returning to acting. "Idk just don’t take anything for granted," he wrote on Instagram. "Oh and friends + family will get you through anything. And justice isn’t given. You have to fight for it."
