Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday. Their meetings come as both leaders navigate ongoing global conflicts and seek to influence U.S. policy.
Netanyahu plans to discuss Israel's security and strength with Trump. "Our goal is clear: to safeguard Israel's security, strengthen its power, and expand the circle of peace around us," Netanyahu stated on social media platform X. He also intends to pay respects to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, whom he described as a "true friend." Graham had been a strong supporter of Israel and a critic of Iran, and had also been working to advance Senate legislation for increased sanctions on Russia.
Zelenskyy is expected to continue discussions with Trump regarding potential pathways to end the multiyear war with Russia. In recent weeks, Zelenskyy has emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to expedite weapon and missile procurement for Ukraine, citing shortages that have left the country vulnerable to Russian attacks.
Trump and Netanyahu have previously had periods of alignment, though recent weeks have seen increased tension. Trump has made comments suggesting a divergence on policy, while Netanyahu's government has expressed concerns over U.S. agreements with Iran and potential arms sales.
Trump indicated that while there are "a little difference" in their stances on certain issues, they are "pretty close." He also commented on the status of U.S. munition stockpiles, attributing depletion to aid sent to Ukraine under the previous administration and stating that the U.S. is in the process of rebuilding those supplies.
Zelenskyy recently announced Ukrainian forces had struck targets in the Caspian Sea, including vessels involved in military cargo shipments and a Russian warship. Ukrainian officials have also alleged a correlation between Russian satellite surveillance and Iranian strikes in the Middle East. Trump stated he would directly question Russian President Vladimir Putin about these allegations.
Both Netanyahu and Zelenskyy are also scheduled to attend the funeral service for Sen. Lindsey Graham.
