Netanyahu Accuses NYC Mayor of Making City Unsafe for Jews in UN Speech

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly addressed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his address to the UN General Assembly on Thursday, accusing the mayor of making the city unsafe for Jews and of falsely accusing his nation of genocide.

"Mr. Mamdani, since you were elected mayor of this city, many Jews no longer feel safe in New York. They talk to me," Netanyahu stated. "They tell me this isn’t the city we remember. It changed so quickly."

The prime minister also referenced Mayor Mamdani's previous threats to have him arrested if he appeared in New York for his UN speech. "Mr. Mamdani, you tried to stop me from coming here," Netanyahu said. "You tried to silence me. Well, you can’t silence me. You can’t silence the truth. And here is the simple truth … Israel didn’t commit genocide. Israel prevented genocide."

Netanyahu further alleged that Mamdani praises criminals convicted of supporting Hamas and cited specific individuals, including Hasan Piker, who Netanyahu claimed said America deserved 9/11. The prime minister also mentioned that Mamdani's wife allegedly liked social media posts praising the Oct. 7 massacre and stating that Tel Aviv should not exist, and that Mamdani refused to condemn these sentiments.

"The lies you and other anti-Semites spread about the Jews and the Jewish state have real consequences," Netanyahu asserted. "In New York, Jews are threatened on the way to synagogue. Jews have been stabbed in the streets. Jews are demonized, targeted. They’re targeted simply for being Jews."

Netanyahu concluded by stating that Mamdani's alleged Hamas allies would have committed atrocities if they had not been stopped, adding, "That’s exactly what Mr. Mamdani’s Hamas buddies would have done to us had we not stopped them. They would have killed every last one of us."
