A senior member of a far-right white supremacist group has died by suicide while facing charges related to an ambush at an Indigenous encampment in Melbourne, Australia.

Timothy Lutze, 36, a member of the National Socialist Network (NSN), was expected to appear in court over the attack at Camp Sovereignty, which occurred in August of the previous year. The Victorian County Court confirmed Lutze's death on Tuesday morning, noting that the charges against him had been withdrawn and the matter finalized.

Lutze, a former gym owner and boxer, was identified as a senior NSN member alongside Thomas Sewell and Nathan Bull. Following Lutze's death, Sewell and Bull had their bail conditions modified to allow them to attend his funeral.

Tributes posted online described Lutze as a former boxing trainer and a "good bloke," with one commenter stating that "different political opinions should never warrant any harm."
