NeNe Leakes has stated that her former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-star Kim Zolciak is struggling emotionally as her son, Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr., faces serious legal charges. Leakes shared this assessment during an appearance on “The Big Tigger Morning Show” on Friday.
Leakes said she contacted Zolciak last week to check on her well-being and her son’s situation. “I know that’s a tough time, and I know she’s not OK,” Leakes told the show.
KJ Biermann Jr. was arrested on August 21 and subsequently indicted by a Georgia grand jury on September 3. The charges against the 15-year-old include aggravated sexual battery, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, and false imprisonment. He faces a total of seven felony charges. These charges stem from an alleged incident involving a female classmate at a Life Time fitness center in Alpharetta, Georgia, in April.
Zolciak, who is estranged from KJ’s father, Kroy Biermann, has publicly denied the allegations against her son. In a statement provided to Page Six, her representative said, “He categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct she has alleged.”
Zolciak was recently present at her son’s bond hearing at Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta. Eyewitnesses described her as remaining “stone-faced” during the proceedings. KJ was granted a $200,000 bond and ordered to refrain from social media and cell phone use while attending school virtually. Investigators reportedly found videos on his cell phone that led to accusations of him having sex with an underage relative.
Leakes and Zolciak have a history of public feuding stemming from their time on “RHOA.” Leakes departed the show in 2020. She later filed a lawsuit in April 2022, alleging that Bravo and executive producer Andy Cohen fostered a work environment where Zolciak made racially offensive and stereotypical comments toward her and others. Leakes dismissed the lawsuit without prejudice in August of that year.
Leakes, who recently made a cameo in “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th,” stated her intention was simply to reach out to Zolciak as a person dealing with a difficult family situation.
