Neil Jones's 'Disgusted' Face Sparks Fan Debate on Strictly Come Dancing
Viewers question professional dancer's reaction to Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu's Foxtrot, amid ongoing discussion about his lack of a celebrity partner.
Fans of Strictly Come Dancing are buzzing after professional dancer Neil Jones appeared to make a "disgusted" face while watching Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu perform their Foxtrot. The moment occurred during Saturday's live show as Winstone and Gu, who had topped the leaderboard the previous week, delivered their routine to "Man I Need" by Olivia Dean.
While some judges offered praise, Anton Du Beke described the dance as "a lovely proper foxtrot," others noted room for improvement. Craig Revel Horwood pointed out "a little misstep" and "a misjudged turn," and Shirley Ballas observed "a few mistakes." The couple ultimately scored 25 points.
It was Jones's reaction, however, that captured the attention of many viewers. Watching from the Clauditorium, he appeared to pull a grimace as the performance concluded and the couple awaited the judges' feedback. Social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), quickly lit up with fan speculation. "Sorry Neil have you got a problem with Jaime Winstone's dance pal?" one user questioned, while another asked, "Why did Neil look disgusted."
This incident has amplified existing discussions about Jones's role on the show. He is currently the only professional dancer without a celebrity partner for the season. Some viewers suggested Jones seemed "off all night," with one tweeting, "What on earth happened backstage before going live? Because everyone’s making mistakes and every time they cut to Neil he looks livid."
Jones himself has acknowledged his situation, referencing his lack of partners in a skit with hosts Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe. When discussing the formation of a "ballroom boy club," Jones quipped, "I wouldn't be too sure about that Joshie, trust me I've been waiting years!" This comment, however, did not resonate well with all viewers, some of whom felt he was receiving too much airtime and becoming a running punchline.
Conversely, other fans expressed sympathy for Jones's recurring lack of a celebrity partner. "Everyone moaning at Neil being at the front and having talking parts.... he's got to do bloody something since they haven't given him a partner in yonks. Give him a break!" one commenter wrote. Suggestions were also made for Jones to step in as a guest judge if a regular panelist were unable to attend.
Neil Jones joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2016. He was paired with his first celebrity partner, Alex Scott, in 2019, reaching the quarter-finals. Subsequent partnerships included Nina Wadia in 2021, with whom he was the first pair eliminated, and singer Toyah Willcox two years ago, who were the second pair eliminated. Jones was also partnered with Jaime Winstone in a prior season, reaching the quarter finals.
Representatives for Neil Jones have been contacted for comment by the Daily Mail.
