A recent study indicates that nearly half of American workers engage in sexual activity during work hours. The research, released in July 2026 in observance of National Orgasm Day, found that 47% of U.S. workers have had sex on the job, and 28% reported reaching orgasm during these encounters.
According to the study by Bloom Stories, an erotica audio hub, the novelty of engaging in sexual activity in non-traditional locations can contribute to arousal and excitement. Lemon Meyer, a sex expert for Bloom, noted that "different locations present different sights, sounds and sensations, which can all add to arousal." The thrill of semi-public locations or taking breaks between professional duties for intimacy were also cited as factors.
Beyond the perceived excitement, the study also suggests that sex on the job may positively impact employees. The report revealed that sexual activity during work hours has been found to "boost productivity" and improve the mental and physical health of employees seeking relief.
The survey also highlighted generational and work-location differences. Among Gen Z workers in their 20s, 38% are reportedly seeking employment that offers private in-office spaces for sexual activity, either alone or with a partner. Similarly, 47% of remote workers prioritize sexual encounters behind their employers' backs.
Investigative findings also detailed preferred locations for sexual encounters outside of traditional settings. Approximately 49% of individuals reported having sex in cars, while 43% engaged in sexual activity outdoors in gardens. Public venues, such as gyms or airplane bathrooms, were cited by 40%, and 34% reported having sex underwater in swimming pools or the sea.
Meyer emphasized the importance of safety and communication when engaging in sexual activity, particularly in novel or public locations. Recommendations include using protective measures like blankets for outdoor encounters, selecting secluded spots to avoid interruption or legal issues, and checking weather forecasts to ensure comfort.
