A substantial portion of Republican voters, nearly 40 percent, believe that Donald Trump, 80, is too old to serve as president. However, these voters are divided on whether he should step down before completing his second term.
According to a recent Daily Mail/JL Partners survey, 38 percent of Republicans polled stated that Trump is too old to be president. Of this group, 11 percent believe he is too elderly and should not be allowed to finish his term, while 27 percent think he is past his prime but should complete his current term.
Conversely, 51 percent of Republicans surveyed believe Trump is not too old to be president. When all respondents' answers are considered, 38 percent indicated that Trump is too old and should not finish his term.
Among Democrats, the sentiment is stronger, with 59 percent stating that Trump is too old and should not finish his term. An additional 22 percent of Democrats believe he is too old but should be allowed to complete his second term.
Independent voters also expressed concerns, with 40 percent saying Trump is too old to be president and should not finish his term, according to the poll.
These concerns about Trump's age come amidst discussions about his health. He has recently drawn attention for bruising on his hands, which the White House attributes to frequent handshaking and aspirin use. White House Physician Dr. Sean Barbabella stated that the bruising, predominantly on his right hand, is typically covered with makeup. IMAGE5
Trump's ankles have also shown swelling, a condition for which he was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) in July 2025. CVI occurs when weakened vein valves cause blood to pool in the legs, a condition more common in older individuals. IMAGE6
Earlier in the year, a rash appeared around Trump's neck, which Dr. Barbabella explained was a result of a medicated cream used for preventative skin care. IMAGE3
Despite these health-related discussions, Trump declared himself in excellent health following his six-month physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in May. He posted on Truth Social that "Everything checked out perfectly." White House Physician Dr. Sean Barbabella affirmed that Trump remained in "excellent overall health."
If Trump completes his term, he would surpass Joe Biden's record to become the oldest sitting U.S. president in history.
