Dozens of burn injuries have been linked to overheating heating elements in nearly 200,000 heated blankets and heating pads sold on Amazon, prompting an urgent recall announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on September 17.

The CPSC warned that internal wire heating elements in JKMAX products can overheat, creating fire and burn hazards. The company has received 577 reports of the blankets smoking, melting, or burning, including 53 reports of burn injuries. The recalled items were sold on Amazon.com between September 2022 and July 2026.

The affected products include heated blankets and heating pads sold in one- and two-packs, available in blue, gray, brown, and red. They are made of polyester, come in multiple sizes, and feature a detachable white remote for temperature adjustment. The model numbers subject to the recall are JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B, and JKMAX-8490B. Consumers can locate the model number on the back of the remote or on a white label attached to the product packaging.

The CPSC is advising consumers to cease using the blankets and pads immediately, rather than attempting to use them at a lower heat setting. JKMAX is offering full refunds under recall number 26-778.

The products were imported by Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd., a company based in China. Marketplace records indicate that the brand JKMAX has been selling products on Amazon's U.S. marketplace since at least 2021, previously operating under names such as JKMAX Pro.

This recall follows a series of similar safety actions involving heated bedding products sold on Amazon. In July, approximately 178,000 OCTROT electric throws and blankets were recalled due to 555 reports of melting, sparking, and smoking, which resulted in 27 fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries. Additionally, in July, the CPSC warned consumers to stop using Melinora electric heated blankets after receiving five reports of smoking, melting, or burning, including one burn injury. The manufacturer of the Melinora blankets, Leevana Inc., had not responded to requests for a recall or information at that time.

The recalled items include heated blankets and heating pads sold in one-packs and two-packs in blue, gray, brown and red

Consumers with affected JKMAX items should immediately stop using them and contact the company for refund instructions. JKMAX can be reached by phone at 800-917-5732, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, or by email at [email protected].
