NBC News has fired a security guard following a security breach that allowed an intruder into the "Today" show studio. The man, identified as Andrew Truelove, was arrested Thursday morning after confronting host Craig Melvin and asking for Al Roker.

According to reports, security video showed two guards on duty during the incident. One guard stepped away, and the other reportedly missed the intruder as he entered the premises. While it is unclear which guard was dismissed, sources indicated the fired employee was a well-liked member of the building staff.

The intruder, Truelove, was apprehended after making his way to the studio staircase. He did not enter the actual filming studio but did confront Melvin. The New York Police Department confirmed that Truelove was charged with hate crime menacing, hate crime burglary, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment. During the confrontation, which occurred shortly before 9 a.m., Truelove allegedly used a racial slur against Melvin.

Melvin addressed the incident on Instagram, assuring fans he was unharmed and intended to return to the "Today" show. NBC News released a statement acknowledging the security lapse and confirming that the company is reviewing its security protocols. The network stated its commitment to ensuring a safe environment for employees, talent, and guests, and is cooperating fully with law enforcement's investigation.
