NBA Star LaMelo Ball Faces Backlash for Refusing to Change Son's Diapers

Minnesota Timberwolves player LaMelo Ball has drawn criticism after stating he does not change his infant son's diapers, deeming it "not my job." Ball, who welcomed his son, LaOne, with model girlfriend Ana Montana in January, made the remarks on the television show 'Inside the NBA' prior to his team's season opener.

"My girl do all that. It's love, for sure," Ball told the show's hosts when asked about childcare responsibilities. "She do all that, you know what I'm saying? We got a good game plan going on. So I know what I gotta do to bring to the table. She know what she gotta do to bring to the table."

When pressed by host Ernie Johnson Jr. about missing out on the experience of diaper changing, Ball clarified, "I did it before, you feel me? I've definitely did it before, [but] it's just not my job. You know what I'm saying? It's not my job."

The comments quickly led to backlash on social media, with users calling the remarks "disrespectful" and questioning his role as a father. One widely shared comment read, "great father figure for sure," while another user stated, "I guess its okay to be a f***ing deadbeat dad as long as you're a millionaire athlete. What a loser."

Ball's girlfriend, Ana Montana, whose real name is Analicia Chaves, publicly announced their son's birth on May 10, writing an emotional message about motherhood. The couple reportedly began dating in late 2021 and went public in June 2023.

In addition to the public reaction to his comments, Montana is facing legal issues. She was arrested on felony drug charges in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, last month. According to reports, she faces two felony counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery, and two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance. She was held on a $20,000 bond, with a mugshot released after a warrant was issued for her arrest on September 22.
