Navanethem Pillay Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, a former UN human rights chief and current judge on the International Court of Justice, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The announcement was made Friday in Oslo, Norway.

Pillay, a South African judge, has a long history of work in international human rights law. She previously served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014. Her tenure included overseeing investigations into alleged war crimes and advocating for victims of human rights abuses.

The Nobel Peace Prize, often regarded as the world's most prestigious honor, is awarded annually to individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to peace.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the peace prize.
