Better Bakehouse Snack Company is initiating a nationwide recall for its Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts due to an undeclared milk ingredient. The affected product was distributed across the United States through retailers such as Target and online via Amazon.
The recall was prompted after one customer reported an allergic reaction to the product. While the individual has since fully recovered, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cautioned that the mislabeled donuts pose a significant risk to individuals with milk allergies or severe sensitivities.
An allergic reaction to milk can manifest with symptoms ranging from hives and stomach upset to anaphylaxis, a severe condition that can impair breathing and cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. The issue originated at the company's contract manufacturer, which has since identified the cause and implemented corrective measures.
The recalled donuts are packaged in 7.05-ounce cartons, containing five individual 1.41-ounce pouches. Affected packages can be identified by UPC 3 50041 39210 3, lot code 26078, and a Best If Used By date of September 15, 2026. The donuts were manufactured and distributed in March 2026.
Consumers who have purchased the affected donuts are advised to check the packaging before consumption, especially if they or household members have a milk allergy. The product should not be consumed. Affected items can be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund. Better Bakehouse is working with retailers to remove the remaining recalled products from shelves and online platforms.
The company emphasized that consumer safety is its priority and that steps are being taken to prevent future labeling errors. The FDA recommends that consumers with allergies regularly check product labels and recall notices, as formulations and labeling can change over time.
