Natasha Lyonne Sparks Confusion with Repost of Trump's Elon Musk Tribute
Actress clarifies political stance after followers question her repost of a statement about SpaceX stock donations.
Natasha Lyonne found herself at the center of online debate this week after reposting a statement from former President Donald Trump that thanked Elon Musk for donating SpaceX stock to American children. The repost, accompanied by emojis including a rocket, salute, and smiling face with sunglasses, led to widespread speculation among her followers about a potential shift in her political allegiances.
Lyonne also shared a clip of Senator J.D. Vance being interrupted by a protester during a speech. Her comment on the clip read, "Sketchy mofo - prefer trump - this s*** is even scarier - don’t really know how we arrived at this aesthetic as baseline normal, but c’est la dominoes, etc. Grimey times."
Multiple users questioned Lyonne's reposts, citing her history of supporting Democratic causes, including her endorsement of Kamala Harris during her presidential run. "Deep into this horrific presidential run and when his popularity is at an all time low is a very insane time to show support for this man," one user commented.
Another follower expressed confusion, stating, "What are you doing? Why are you reposting anything Trump says? I am your fan but this bothers me. Please explain." Some comments expressed dismay, with one user asking if she had "gone insane."
However, some social media users defended Lyonne's actions. "I love all the people in these replies who think giving American kids money to give them a jump start on their future is a bad thing," one user wrote. Another added, "Rip to your mentions because liberals are all miserable people who don’t even like to see American kids winning."
Lyonne later clarified her position in response to follower questions. When asked about her apparent preference for Trump over Vance, she responded, "To insert Manchurian Candidate here?" To another user who suggested her timing was inappropriate, Lyonne asked, "Wait what’s happened for real. -you guys think I like trump?"
She further elaborated, "I don’t like installed fascists: I vote for Al Gore bc we got a data center crisis regardless, & at a glance - the guy seems genuinely concerned w climate." Lyonne also suggested that "Lina Khan & Karen Hao should probably run America for a year to figure out what happens next."
After a user posted, "Ohhhhh motherf***er…not you too…," Lyonne responded with a gif and stated, "fine I’ll delete them but this was funny." She subsequently appeared to remove the controversial posts.
