Natasha Lyonne Clarifies Political Stance After Trump Post Sparks Backlash
The "Russian Doll" star declared "Not maga" after social media users debated her political leanings.
Actress Natasha Lyonne clarified her political stance after a social media post led to accusations that she was aligning with the "MAGA" movement. The debate began when Lyonne commented on a video of a protester interrupting a speech by Ohio Senator JD Vance, stating, "Sketchy mofo – prefer trump."
Lyonne further fueled speculation when she reposted a message from former President Donald Trump thanking Elon Musk for pledging to donate SpaceX stock. Lyonne added four emojis to the repost: a rocket, a saluting face, a sun, and a smiling face with sunglasses. This action prompted some users to interpret her activity as support for Trump, with one commenting, "Natasha Lyonne going full MAGA is depressing as hell."
However, the situation shifted when Lyonne directly responded to a user asking about her political alignment. To the question, "So is Natasha Lyonne MAGA now or am I misreading her posts?" Lyonne replied with two words: "Not maga."
The initial exchange saw mixed reactions online. Some users criticized Lyonne's apparent preference for Trump over Vance, while others defended her, questioning the assumptions being made based on her posts. "How … are y'all reading this like she actually likes trump," one user wrote.
Another commenter expressed frustration with the immediate backlash, posting, "Natasha Lyonne drops four emojis on a Trump post and the left is already planning her cancellation. Tolerance at its finest."
Prior to her clarification, Lyonne had previously been in the news for a separate incident where she joked that her removal from a plane was a "performance art piece" after a bizarre encounter with airline staff.
