Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has publicly criticized Rep. Elise Stefanik, labeling her a "selfish, do nothing politician" for her perceived lack of support for Republican candidates in New York. Blakeman's comments come after his own substantial loss to incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in the recent gubernatorial election, where he secured only 39.7% of the vote.
In a post on X, Blakeman asserted that Stefanik "didn’t lift a finger to help Republican candidates in New York this year." He further characterized her career as unremarkable, save for "one moment of glory." Stefanik, who had previously considered a run for governor before Blakeman emerged as a candidate and secured former President Trump's endorsement, did not actively campaign for Blakeman and did not appear at any of his campaign events.
Stefanik had previously told The Post that the state Republican party needed to regroup following a series of election defeats. She commented that "the results speak for themselves" after Democrats regained control of the Senate and Congress, and flipped five state governorships.
