NASCAR Driver Corey Heim Involved in Post-Race Brawl After On-Track Incident

Tensions flared both on and off the track at Martinsville Speedway during the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, culminating in a physical altercation involving emerging NASCAR driver Corey Heim.

Heim, who competes for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin's 23XI Racing team, found himself the target of an attack by members of the Chad Bryant Racing team shortly after the race concluded. The incident stemmed from a fierce on-track duel for second place between Heim and Treyten Lapcevich, which occurred in the final laps behind race winner Caden Kvapil.

During their intense battle for position, Heim's vehicle made contact with the rear of Lapcevich's car, an incident that allowed Kvapil to move into the lead. Following the checkered flag, the animosity continued as Lapcevich appeared to intentionally make contact with Heim's car on the cool-down lap. Heim then responded by driving his car over the front end of Lapcevich's vehicle, resulting in damage to both cars.

Following the on-track incident, Lapcevich exited his car and was reportedly heading toward Heim to confront him when he was intercepted by his team owner, Chad Bryant. Instead of a driver-to-driver confrontation, members of the Chad Bryant Racing team, including Bryant, then allegedly attacked Heim near a hot dog stand at the track. Punches were reportedly thrown, and Heim was forced back against a sign.

Heim later shared a photo on social media showing himself in the aftermath of the scuffle and indicated he had kept the damaged sign as a memento. "Solid effort, but at least make it count next time," Heim wrote in his post, referring to the hot dog menu sign. "New office piece. Poor thing took a beating this weekend."

Regarding the on-track collision, Heim stated, "I really don't know. He tried to smush me into the curb and then my tire hopped his tire. As you can see, I've got nowhere to go. He just completely turns left and then I hop his tire, so I don't know what he was doing. It is what it is. It's Late Model racing."

Lapcevich, however, downplayed the confrontation, claiming he intended to speak with Heim about the incident rather than engage in a fight. "I was pretty calm even by the time I got to our pit stall there," Lapcevich said. "I mean, just disappointed, obviously. Disappointed in Corey as a racer, a person. Obviously, angry about what he did on the track there. He was running into everyone all night. Like, you saw him, how he was racing with Caden, how he was racing with Lee. Like, Cup guy or not, it doesn't matter to me, and we're all the same out here when we get to the track."

This incident follows another notable post-race confrontation in NASCAR just the previous week, where drivers Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney engaged in a physical dispute after contact on the track at Bristol Motor Speedway. In that instance, Blaney confronted Hocevar after an on-track incident, leading to a scuffle involving multiple team members.
