Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber Reunite to Support Transgender Daughter Kai at NYFW
The former couple attended New York Fashion Week to see their 17-year-old daughter walk the runway, days after she received a modeling award.
Naomi Watts and her ex-partner Liev Schreiber made a rare joint public appearance to support their daughter, Kai Schreiber, at New York Fashion Week. The former couple attended the RTW Spring/Summer 2027 show where Kai, 17, walked the runway.
This event follows Kai's recent achievement as the first transgender girl to win the Breakthrough Model of the Year award at The Daily Front Row's Fashion Media Awards. During her acceptance speech last week, Kai expressed gratitude for her family's unconditional support and her excitement about her growing career in fashion.
"I'm also the first transgender girl to win this award," Kai stated, receiving applause from the audience. She added that she was "so beyond excited that I get to learn more about it every day and call it my job." Kai also acknowledged the women who paved the way for her in the industry.
Watts, 57, and Schreiber, 58, who were together from 2005 to 2016, posed on the front row alongside other notable figures including Demi Moore and Anna Wintour. Watts wore a grey striped vest and skirt, while Schreiber sported a dapper ensemble. Kai, who came out as transgender last year, impressed in a graphic print top and skirt with colorful eye makeup.
Schreiber's award acceptance speech included thanks to Valentino for her lime-green mini dress and for introducing her to the fashion community. She described the honor as "surreal" and attributed her success to her "fashion family."
Watts and Schreiber, who also share a son, Sasha, 19, have maintained a positive co-parenting relationship since their split. Watts married actor Billy Crudup in 2023. Schreiber previously spoke to Variety about his initial reaction to Kai coming out as transgender, noting that his daughter's identity felt natural given her long-expressed femininity.
