Naomi Osaka's Ex-Boyfriend Cordae Addresses Split in New Rap Song

Rapper Cordae has publicly addressed his breakup with tennis star Naomi Osaka in a new song titled "Helpless," featured on his collaborative album with Anderson .Paak, "Heavy is the Crown." The track delves into the challenges of co-parenting their daughter, Shai, and suggests the possibility of a second child.

In the lyrics, Cordae expresses the difficulty of raising his daughter in separate households, stating, "Was never my intention to raise a daughter in separate homes." He also alludes to a second child on the way: "I'm finna have my second child, although we still ain't said our vows." The song marks Cordae's first public reflection on the end of his relationship with the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Osaka and Cordae began their relationship in 2019 after meeting at a Los Angeles Clippers game. They announced they were expecting their first child in January 2023 and welcomed daughter Shai in July of the same year.

Osaka confirmed the end of their relationship in January 2025 via an Instagram Story post. She described the split as amicable, stating, "No bad blood at all, he's a great person and an awesome dad." Osaka has seemingly maintained a supportive stance, having recently liked a social media post promoting Cordae's new album.

The song "Helpless" also features Anderson .Paak discussing his own personal struggles, including the fallout from his divorce.
