Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., declined to answer questions from Fox News Digital regarding her husband's misdemeanor hit-and-run charge and her recent vote on an amendment to cut U.S. aid to Israel.
When pressed about whether she believed the misdemeanor charge against Paul Pelosi was fair, the former speaker offered no response as she walked to her car. Paul Pelosi faces a maximum sentence of six months in county jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for the charge, filed by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. The infraction for making an unsafe turn on July 3 also accompanied the misdemeanor charge.
According to the sheriff's office, the 86-year-old allegedly failed to contact or identify the owner of a damaged parked Tesla. Pelosi's Maserati convertible reportedly broke down about a half-mile from the incident. Deputies at the scene requested Pelosi undergo a behind-the-wheel driving evaluation.
This is not the first time Paul Pelosi has faced legal scrutiny for driving incidents. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence after crashing into an oncoming Jeep and injuring the other driver. He was also reportedly behind the wheel in a 1957 incident that resulted in a fatality, though he was cleared of wrongdoing by a jury.
Fox News Digital also inquired about Pelosi's vote, alongside over 100 House Democrats, for an amendment by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., that sought to cut $3.3 billion in aid to Israel. The amendment failed, with 314 votes against it and 104 in favor. Massie was the sole Republican to vote for the measure. This vote has been seen as indicative of growing pressure within the Democratic Party concerning the U.S. stance on Israel and its actions in Gaza.
The shift in Democratic perspectives on Israel has been noted, particularly in light of actions during the Trump administration and ongoing scrutiny of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies in Gaza. Primary elections have also reflected voter sentiment, with progressive candidates who advocate for Palestinians and criticize Israel's actions achieving electoral success over more centrist Democrats.
