Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Case: Investigators Pursue DNA Analysis, Visit Florida Labs
The Pima County Sheriff's Department provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has announced significant progress in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie. The department's task force is actively working with laboratories to advance DNA analysis in the case.
"The Nancy Guthrie Task Force continues to work with our labs in hopes of furthering our DNA analysis in this investigation," Sheriff Chris Nanos stated Friday night in a post on X. "Earlier this month, investigators traveled to Florida to meet with lab scientists to see what more could be done to advance this case."
Nanos added that investigators discussed "a number of ideas" with lab scientists and are continuing to collaborate with partners to resolve the case. He also urged the public to submit any tips, emphasizing that "no tip is too small" and that even minor pieces of information could be critical.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1. Shortly after her disappearance, the FBI released security camera footage showing an armed and masked individual outside her residence on the night she went missing.
In September, Pima County investigators were reportedly examining a newly discovered potential ransom note related to the case. The sheriff's department initially acknowledged the discovery on X, stating that investigators were looking into its credibility and any associated social media comments. However, a subsequent statement clarified that the message was deemed not credible.
Despite multiple ransom notes being received, no suspects have been arrested in connection with Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping. In June, a former FBI agent suggested that investigators were nearing a breakthrough in identifying the individual seen on the home security camera footage, but no arrests have been publicly announced.
Savannah Guthrie has publicly appealed for her mother's safe return and returned to her hosting duties at the "Today" show in April, several months after her mother's disappearance.
