The concept of 'manifesting'—the practice of visualizing and believing in desired outcomes—is gaining traction, according to former MP Nadine Dorries. Dorries shared her perspective on the trend, detailing how she has employed these techniques throughout her life with what she describes as significant success.
Dorries recounted a recent conversation at a barbecue where the topic of Taylor Swift's wedding emerged. A guest observed that Swift's choice of an instrumental version of her song 'Love Story' for her walk down the aisle was akin to manifesting her own proposal and wedding. This observation resonated with Dorries, who noted that she hears about manifesting at least weekly, even from contestants on reality television shows.
She explained that she realized she had been manifesting for years, particularly recalling the success of her first novel, 'The Four Streets,' which became a bestseller in 2014. Dorries described being in a coffee shop when her agent called with news of the book's Amazon ranking. She watched as five-star ratings increased, and then the coveted "No. 1 bestseller" tab appeared. She stated she was not surprised, as she had envisioned this outcome repeatedly.
Dorries shared further examples from her life, including starting a childcare consultancy in 1988 with the explicit goal of selling it within ten years, a plan she discussed daily with her husband. Similarly, when she decided to pursue a career as a Member of Parliament, she visualized herself in the House of Commons, even placing a photo of the location on her fridge with the label 'My Place of Work.'
She also referenced actor Nick Frost, who reportedly manifested the role of Hagrid in the HBO adaptation of Harry Potter by watching the films and repeatedly writing the character's name. Dorries suggested that while some may attribute such successes to inherent talent or hard work, her own experience and that of others point to the power of focused intention.
Dorries acknowledged that the process is not always flawless, recounting a minor disappointment with a Premium Bond prize where she felt her visualization was not specific enough. However, she remains a firm believer, stating that she has recently identified five future goals, visualizing their achievement and preparing to act and feel as though they have already come to pass. She concluded by posing a question to skeptics: if one does not know what they want, how can they achieve it?
