A Las Vegas family narrowly escaped a devastating house fire in the early morning hours of July 5, crediting an unidentified stranger with saving their lives. The passerby woke the sleeping residents and assisted in fighting the blaze before vanishing.

The fire erupted shortly before 5 a.m. at a home in the Las Vegas Valley. Homeowner Danna Shabtai reported being asleep when a man began frantically ringing her doorbell and pounding on her front door. "My dog started barking, so I woke up and I stumbled to the door," Shabtai told Fox News Digital. "I opened the door and the gentleman was yelling, 'Fire! Fire!'"

Upon opening the door, Shabtai saw flames engulfing the back of her house. The stranger pointed towards the rear of the property, where Shabtai observed a "wall of orange" through the French doors leading to the backyard. The surveillance video shared by the family shows flames spreading rapidly in the backyard during the incident.

Shabtai's sister immediately grabbed a garden hose from the neighboring property and began attempting to fight the fire, while Shabtai scooped up her 14-month-old son and ran to alert their neighbors. She described banging on the neighbors' windows and doors until everyone inside was safely evacuated. Meanwhile, the stranger continued to assist in combating the flames.

"He went to those neighbors' house and grabbed their hose from the front yard, and he was trying to put out their fire," Shabtai said. "So not only did he wake us up, he was trying to put out the fire with my sister."

Shabtai believes the quick actions of the unidentified man prevented a far worse tragedy. "If he wasn't driving by at that time, I don't know. It would have been a lot worse before we would have even noticed or woken up that there was a fire," she stated.

The family has since turned to social media in an effort to identify and thank their rescuer. Shabtai expressed deep gratitude, calling the man an "angel" who saved multiple lives. She believes the fire may have been caused by fireworks set off by children across the street on July 4, noting she heard debris landing on a neighbor's gazebo and saw a glowing ember drift toward the neighboring property before going to sleep.

"This is why you leave fireworks to the professionals," Shabtai wrote in a Facebook post. "This guy who just happened to drive by saved our lives and our neighbors' lives. Next year I'll be standing outside with my garden hose and hosing down any feral kids lighting up fireworks in my neighborhood."

While Shabtai's family was fortunate to remain in their home, the fire caused extensive damage to their backyard and displaced some neighbors. Las Vegas house fire leaves backyard charred after mystery hero alerts family Backyard destroyed after Las Vegas fire spreads between neighboring homes
