New York City police are investigating after five individuals emerged from an Upper East Side manhole early Friday morning, continuing a series of peculiar underground excursions. The group was observed climbing out of a sewer opening on 82nd Street and East End Avenue around 2:10 a.m. before quickly departing in a black truck, according to law enforcement sources.

Witnesses reported that the group consisted of four men and one woman. The motive behind their emergence from the sewer remains unclear. This incident follows a pattern of similar events in the city.

In September, two men, Kevin Rodriguez and Samuel Reveron, were arrested after being found in the city's sewer system near an Upper East Side hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was staying for the UN General Assembly. Rodriguez stated he was searching for gold, though experts question the presence of valuable materials in the sewers.

Earlier in the summer, a different group of three individuals, described as wearing overalls and headlamps, were seen exiting a manhole near Madison Square Garden on 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue.

As of Friday, no arrests had been made in connection with the latest sighting.
