Mysterious "Mole People" Spotted Entering Manhattan Sewer

New York City police responded early Sunday morning to a report of three individuals climbing into a sewer manhole in Manhattan, marking the latest incident in a string of sightings of unidentified trespassers in the city's underground systems.

Officers were dispatched to the area of West 141st Street between Hamilton Place and Amsterdam Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. following a 911 call. Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least one of the individuals exit the sewer and enter a silver vehicle before driving away. The incident is currently under investigation, according to an NYPD representative.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. and initially deemed the report "unfounded." However, the occurrence follows numerous other accounts and surveillance footage capturing individuals entering and exiting the city's sewer system in recent months.

On Friday, five individuals, described as "mole men," reportedly emerged from a manhole on East 82nd Street on the Upper East Side and left in a truck, police and sources stated. Last month, two men were arrested after being found in the city's underground near a hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was staying during the UN General Assembly.

Earlier this summer, another group of three individuals, equipped with overalls and headlamps, were seen exiting the ground near Madison Square Garden. In September of the previous year, three people were observed climbing out of a manhole in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, before police could respond to a 911 call.

City officials have suggested that these underground trespassers might be scavenging for lost valuables such as coins, wallets, scrap metal, or jewelry that may have ended up in the sewer system. The pattern of these sightings has continued to puzzle authorities and capture public attention.
