My Chemical Romance Continues Use of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader-Style Outfits Amid Lawsuit
The band's dancers appeared in disputed uniforms at a Friday concert, hours after legal action was filed.
My Chemical Romance continued to feature dancers in uniforms resembling those of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, October 23. This occurred just hours after Pro Silver Star Ltd., the owner of the DCC, filed for a temporary restraining order and injunction against the band.
The legal action, filed in the District Court of Dallas County, alleges that My Chemical Romance misled concertgoers and social media users by using performers in costumes that mimicked the iconic DCC uniforms during a staged shootout scene at the band's October 21 concert. The lawsuit states that during the performance, dancers dressed in blue-and-white outfits, similar to the DCC uniforms, appeared on stage with rifles before being depicted as being shot and crawling off the stage.
Court documents claim that the stunt led to the belief among audience members and online observers that the performers were actual Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Posts about the incident have circulated online, further perpetuating this perception.
Pro Silver Star Ltd. stated in its filing that it is not seeking to alter the band's performance content, such as their setlist, narrative, or choreography, but rather to prevent the use of the specific DCC uniform. The company emphasized that the band has "an unlimited" range of alternative costume designs and that the DCC uniform is federally registered.
Fan-posted videos from Friday's concert appear to show dancers again wearing similar blue-and-white outfits. A cease-and-desist letter was reportedly sent to My Chemical Romance on October 22, and the band proceeded with the disputed act on subsequent dates.
My Chemical Romance's schedule at the Hollywood Bowl included performances on October 21, 23, 24, 30, and 31. The band has been contacted for comment.
