Musk Warns Democrats of Retaliation Amid Probe Threats

Elon Musk has threatened to retaliate against Democrats who investigate his companies if they gain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections. The warning comes amid reports that Democratic lawmakers are preparing to scrutinize Musk's multibillion-dollar business empire, including federal contracts and his role in Ukraine's access to satellite internet.

'Live by the sword, die by the sword,' Musk posted on his social media platform X on Wednesday. 'Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.'

The threat follows a Politico article detailing plans by Democrats to scrutinize Musk if they win control of the House or Senate. Tech journalist Kara Swisher also suggested on a podcast that Musk could face significant consequences if Democrats regain power, citing potential investigations into his time leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and questions surrounding his business dealings and government contracts.

Musk responded to Swisher's comments on X, stating, 'Sounds like Swisher really wants to go to prison.'

At stake are billions of dollars in government contracts held by SpaceX, Musk's rocket and satellite company. SpaceX is a major supplier to NASA and the U.S. national security establishment. Its Starlink satellite network provides critical communications infrastructure for Ukraine's military amid its ongoing war with Russia. Democrats have previously raised concerns about reports that Musk ordered a Starlink slowdown that affected Ukrainian forces, questioning the implications of private company decisions on a conflict with significant U.S. strategic interests.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, questioned the implications of a private contractor's ability to influence wartime communications. Musk has contested claims of independently controlling military Starlink usage, asserting that decisions regarding speed or usage limitations are made by the U.S. military and ultimately the president.

Musk's work with the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which pursued spending cuts and federal workforce reductions, is another area that could face scrutiny. Democrats have raised questions about DOGE's access to sensitive government information and its role in job reductions and disruption of government agencies.

A Democratic majority in Congress could grant lawmakers control of powerful committees, enabling them to demand documents, hold hearings, and compel testimony, potentially intensifying scrutiny of Musk's dealings with Washington. Musk, who has emerged as a significant political donor, has contributed substantially to Republican campaigns ahead of the midterms. His businesses operate in sectors heavily influenced by federal contracts, regulation, and government policy, making the election outcome potentially impactful for his ventures, including Tesla.
