Murder-Accused Had Dispute With Teen Before Fatal Stabbing, Court Hears

One of the individuals accused of murdering Tristan Kerr, who was fatally stabbed on February 5, had a prior dispute with the 17-year-old victim, Newport Crown Court was told. Connor Palfrey, 25, is among the four defendants—Palfrey, Georgie Mears, 19, Elexi Manny, 25, and Ricardo Elliot, 27—who deny murder through joint enterprise, a legal principle where individuals can be convicted for assisting or encouraging a murder.

Ieuan Crane, 31, who was present during the incident, testified that Palfrey had a disagreement, referred to as "beef," with Kerr following an incident where Kerr allegedly chased Palfrey with his dog. Crane stated that the issue was resolved about a week or two later when Kerr visited Palfrey.

On the day of Kerr's death, Crane was in his Abertridwr flat with Kerr and two other men, reportedly playing computer games and watching YouTube. Crane recounted that Palfrey and Mears entered the flat uninvited. In a police interview played to the court, Crane described Palfrey as being armed with a block of wood, potentially with a nail. Mears, who ran ahead of Palfrey, then attacked Kerr, who was seated on a sofa. Crane initially believed Mears was punching Kerr, only realizing Mears was wielding a large knife with a "Zombie, Rambo blade" after the fourth strike.

Crane attempted to intervene by grabbing Mears' arm and wrist, but Palfrey allegedly threatened him with the block of wood. Crane stated he was trying to stop the assault on his friend.

Kerr and another friend, known as "Custard," escaped the flat through the back door. Crane reported pushing Palfrey and Mears out of his home and locking the door. He observed them leaving in a car parked on the driveway. Manny and Elliot were reportedly in the hallway at the time.

Crane only became aware of the severity of Kerr's injuries when he went outside and was told by "Custard" that the situation was "bad." Crane observed Kerr collapsed in the street, bleeding heavily. He recalled a nurse emerging to assist. Crane stated he had known Kerr for two years, and that Kerr frequently visited his flat to see his dog.

A significant quantity of cannabis, along with a shotgun cartridge and weighing scales, was later discovered in the freezer of Crane's flat. Crane admitted to smoking cannabis but denied knowledge of the drugs in the freezer, the scales, or the shotgun cartridge. He also stated he did not knowingly permit drug dealing from his home, though he was unsure if Kerr himself dealt drugs, but knew the teenager used ketamine.

The four defendants were subsequently apprehended in Hereford. The trial is ongoing.
