Muay Thai fighter Ryan McDonald, 19, has come forward with further allegations about the driver involved in a road rage incident where he intervened to protect two women. Dashcam footage of the confrontation on Queensland's Bruce Highway went viral after McDonald stepped in when a driver allegedly attempted to open a woman's car door.

McDonald stated that he has since received information suggesting the driver has a history of violence, describing him as "not a good guy in general." The incident began when a van reportedly stopped on the busy highway, and the driver exited his vehicle to approach a car occupied by two young women.

Footage appeared to show the man attempting to open the driver's door before McDonald and other motorists intervened. McDonald emphasized that his primary concern was ensuring the women's safety and that they were able to get home unharmed. "The main thing that come from that was at least the girls in that car were good," he said. "They didn’t get harmed. Obviously they would have been a bit frightened. But they would have got a sigh of relief once they knew that it was all under control."

The confrontation escalated to the point where McDonald and the driver exchanged words and removed their shirts. However, no physical altercation occurred, reportedly after the driver learned of McDonald's experience as a professional fighter. McDonald has a professional record with eight victories, including four knockout wins.

McDonald explained his actions during the standoff, including removing his hoodie. He stated that he was aware of his attire and wanted to avoid his hoodie being pulled over his face if a fight ensued. He also noted concerns about his shirt being pulled onto the road due to the highway location. "So I was trying to eliminate every bad possible outcome. But it turned out being the best outcome," he said.

The fighter suggested that his experience demonstrates that trained individuals do not need to resort to violence in threatening situations. "It's teaching men how they can stand up for women and how they can de-escalate a situation, not everything has to be physical," McDonald commented. "Especially when you’re trained in martial arts and you know what you’re capable of. You don’t have to use it. You can use your words knowing you’re confident in what you can do to someone."

McDonald's intervention has garnered significant praise online, with many commending his bravery and calm demeanor. Comments from social media users highlighted their relief that the women were unharmed and expressed admiration for McDonald's protective actions and his approach to de-escalation. One user described him as a "fighter with a massive heart."

A motorist who passed the scene corroborated the events, noting that McDonald and another driver positioned their vehicles to shield the smaller car as they drove off, an action they felt deserved applause.
