Ms. Rachel Criticized for Stance on Gaza Conflict and "Privileged" Collaborators

Children's entertainer Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, has stated she will not work with individuals she deems "privileged" who remain silent on the conflict in Gaza. This stance has drawn criticism from groups such as the Campaign Against Antisemitism, which described her position as an exclusionary "political purity test."

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Accurso clarified that she would make exceptions for those whose livelihoods could be jeopardized by speaking out. However, she indicated a disinterest in collaborating with privileged individuals who stay silent, stating, "I feel like maybe if we all said something, the genocide would stop." Accurso has previously expressed concern for children in Gaza, comparing her advocacy to a deep care for all children.

Campaign Against Antisemitism responded to Accurso's remarks by calling her judgment of who is willing to work with "patently hypocritical." A spokesperson for the group stated that acting as an adjudicator is a privileged position and that imposing political purity tests is inherently exclusionary. The group also referenced a past incident where Accurso reportedly liked a comment suggesting "Free America from the Jews," adding that she should be careful when discussing such topics and that her actions risk ostracizing those with differing views, including Jewish individuals.

Accurso's recent public statements on the Gaza conflict have included challenging celebrities to speak out. She questioned why well-established, "uncancellable" celebrities would not risk speaking publicly on basic issues, such as children in Gaza having access to schools and hospitals.

Earlier, Accurso pledged to match rapper Macklemore's $1 million donation to Palestinian aid organizations and urged other wealthy celebrities to do the same. Her advocacy has also faced scrutiny following a resurfaced 2025 video where she introduced Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza as her "friend" to her young audience. This clip emerged after Azaiza stated in a podcast interview that he filmed Israeli hostages being mistreated on October 7, 2023, but intentionally withheld the footage.

Ms. Rachel's platform extends beyond YouTube, with over 21 million subscribers. Her children's programming has also seen significant viewership on Netflix, exceeding 69 million streams since 2025.
