Lowestoft MP Jess Asato is suing Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, for damages in the High Court, alleging the technology created "grossly offensive" and non-consensual explicit images of her. The lawsuit claims that users prompted Grok to generate sexualized, degrading, and threatening images of Asato, which were subsequently shared online.
According to court documents, after attempts to report some of the generated images, the platform X (formerly Twitter) initially refused to remove them, stating in March that they did not violate its terms of service, privacy policy, or rules. While two videos were later removed, a significant number of reported posts remained online as of late July.
xAI has since stated that users will no longer be able to use Grok to generate sexualized images of real individuals. The creation or request of non-consensual deepfake images of adults is now illegal in the UK.
Despite these statements, Asato's legal team contends that xAI has "failed and is failing" to prevent the continued creation of such images by its chatbot. A hearing for the claim has yet to be scheduled.
