South Derbyshire MP Samantha Niblett has officially launched her "Summer of Sex" campaign, a push to enhance sex education and wellbeing. Niblett has advocated for the creation of a ministerial post dedicated to these issues, hoping for support from the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

Mentioned in the campaign are advocates like actress Emma Thompson, who stated, "I'm backing Samantha and Cindy's campaign for lifelong sex education, which is not party political, but it is critical." The campaign has also garnered support from individuals within the NHS and the probation service.

Niblett has observed a shift in perception surrounding her work, noting that while some initially reacted with levity, the seriousness of the cause is becoming more widely recognized. She described the initial response as "giggly" but that it has since evolved into an acknowledgment that "this is quite serious isn't it?"

A cross-party debate on the subject is scheduled for the autumn, and Niblett believes that as support for the campaign grows nationally, more colleagues will feel comfortable speaking out. She emphasized the importance of asserting the campaign's message against any attempts to diminish it.

Niblett also highlighted the contributions of Cindy Gallop, a sex educator and campaigner, and Lucy Litwick, CEO of Coco De Mer, who have been involved in the initiative. The campaign aims to foster a more open and educational approach to sex education and wellbeing throughout life.
