Member of Parliament Patrick Spencer is on trial at Southwark Crown Court in London, denying two counts of sexual assault. The charges stem from an alleged incident in August 2023 where Spencer is accused of touching two women inappropriately at the Groucho Club.
One of the accusers testified that Spencer, 38, did not have her consent to touch her breasts and described him as "a bit of a pest." She stated that Spencer insisted she have a drink, despite her refusal, before touching her. The woman, who appeared behind a screen, told the court that Spencer's initial demeanor was "animated and friendly" but that he began asking her personal questions about her marital status.
"I felt I wanted to move away, he was invading my personal space," the woman testified. She also recounted telling Spencer that she was married and that her husband was present, indicating she felt he was "getting too familiar." Spencer, who was elected as the MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich in July 2024, denies the allegations. He resides in Suffolk.
