Mourners Gather for Funeral of NYC Mom Beaten to Death

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem on Saturday for the funeral of Lovay Williams, who was allegedly beaten to death in front of her 7-year-old daughter on September 6.

A white carriage drawn by two white horses, adorned with a photo of Williams, carried her casket to the church for the service. Williams' brother, Nuquan Williams Jr., wore a necklace with his sister's photo.

"Right now, I'm very devastated," Nuquan Williams Jr. told The Post. "On behalf of my sister, I'm kind of angry … that her life was taken from her so, so young, 27 years old, devoted mother."

The victim's 7-year-old daughter, who was present when police discovered Williams, wore a green dress, one of her mother's favorite colors. "She's in loving spirits," her uncle said of the child. "She's strong for her mom, and she has a bunch of support. You know, me, all my family, work for the state, city … so she's gonna be well taken care of."

During the service, the young girl was escorted to see her mother, who was dressed in a green outfit, a light white jacket, a gold necklace, and a tiara. Inside the church, congregants sang and wept for Williams.

Her boyfriend, Tiliek Thompson, is currently held at Rikers Island facing a murder charge in connection with her death.

Williams' grandfather, Jose Chango Alvarez, expressed his grief but also his faith. "But at the same time, I feel blessed that she's somewhere peaceful in God's hand, and she not feeling no pain," he said. "Even though she was taken too early from us, life is gonna move on, but we're gonna move on in her name, Lovay." He assured that his great-granddaughter would recover, stating, "She's gonna be okay, because we gonna keep her strong."

Many mourners wore green T-shirts with Williams' photo and the inscription "Forever 27." Giana Brown, a friend from middle school, described Williams as "an amazing person" who always prioritized others and had a "pure spirit."

At the end of the service, four doves were released outside the church. As Williams' casket was placed into the carriage, the crowd cheered, with some shouting, "We love you" and "Lovay is gone."
