Mourinho Maintains El Clasico Dominance as Real Madrid Closes Gap in La Liga

Jose Mourinho continued his impressive El Clasico record, leading Real Madrid to a vital 2-1 victory against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The win, sealed by Kylian Mbappe's late brace, halts Barcelona's nine-game domestic unbeaten streak and significantly alters the landscape at the top of La Liga.

Mourinho has now become only the third Real Madrid manager to achieve six consecutive El Clasicos without defeat, a feat last accomplished by Vicente del Bosque between 2001 and 2003. This latest triumph brings Mourinho's record in his last six El Clasico matches to four wins and two draws, reinforcing his reputation in this historic fixture.

The victory closed the gap between Real Madrid and Barcelona to just three points, transforming the title race from a potential nine-point deficit for Madrid into a closely contested battle. Mourinho emphasized the team's strategic approach, stating, "In my view, Real Madrid do not play to win at the Camp Nou, Real Madrid play to win La Liga." He attributed the win to the players' collective effort, calmness, and merit, highlighting the strength and mindset of his squad.

"I've learned that I have an extraordinary group, with the quality and mindset to play," Mourinho remarked. He also noted the importance of midfield balance, commenting, "In midfield, having a mix of talents gives us more than just having two players with similar characteristics. This mix of talents gives us balance when defending and quality when we go on the attack."

Despite the crucial win, Mourinho cautioned against overconfidence, adding, "We need to continue like this and don't go over the moon after this win."

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick acknowledged the defeat, conceding that his team lacked freshness after a demanding series of matches. "We missed the freshness," Flick stated. "It's not easy for our players. We have to recover well, train well and we have to respond from this defeat. In big games, small things are important and they decide the games and today, it wasn't on our side."

Mourinho's return to Real Madrid this summer has seen him manage six wins and six losses in El Clasicos. The Portuguese manager's tactical acumen was evident as his team navigated a challenging fixture, ultimately securing three crucial points that have reignited the La Liga title chase.
