Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has pushed back against Jose Mourinho's complaints about the refereeing during their recent match. Mourinho, whose team suffered a defeat, had expressed significant frustration, claiming his side was disadvantaged by refereeing decisions.

Mourinho's post-match press conference focused heavily on his grievances. He presented printed images of what he described as "two clear red cards" that he felt were missed by the officials. "Given the difficulties we faced afterwards playing 11 against 10, we can only imagine what 50 minutes of 11 against nine would have been like," Mourinho stated, implying that the match outcome was unduly influenced by these decisions.

In response, Simeone emphasized the importance of respecting officials and colleagues. "I understand that we're in a privileged position with a lot of public scrutiny, as coaches, and whether it's Mourinho, [Barcelona manager Hansi] Flick, [Real Betis boss Manuel] Pellegrini, me, or anyone else, we need to be careful about what we say," Simeone commented. He added, "We have to know how to respect others, the referees, our colleagues. And when someone crosses that line of respect, it's not right - you can't cross that line."

The match in question saw Atletico Madrid's defender Dean Huijsen receive a red card early in the second half, when the score was still goalless. The dismissal occurred after Huijsen pulled down Atletico's Giuliano Simeone inside the penalty area. This incident was a focal point of Mourinho's subsequent critique.

This defeat marked Real Madrid's second loss of the season, following an earlier 1-0 defeat to Real Betis in September.
