President Donald Trump has seen a notable decline in support among mothers across the United States, according to a recent poll by Echelon Insights. The survey, conducted online between July 9 and July 13, found that 61% of likely midterm election voters surveyed strongly or somewhat disapprove of Trump’s job performance. Mothers, who play a key role in managing household finances, indicated that the economy and the rising cost of living are their top priorities ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. A significant 67% of mothers surveyed stated that the country is “on the wrong track” under the current administration.

Key Concerns for Mothers

When asked about the biggest issues facing the U.S., 30% of mothers cited the cost of living as their primary concern. An additional 13% identified political corruption as the biggest issue, with another 19% listing it as the second biggest issue. Overall, 48% of mothers surveyed believe the cost of living is the most significant challenge the country faces today. The poll also revealed that 59% of mothers have a “very” or “somewhat” unfavorable view of President Trump. The economic challenges highlighted by mothers are attributed in part to administration policies. The disruption of oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz, a consequence of the ongoing conflict with Iran, has been linked to increased food and gas prices. Additionally, a significant legislative bill passed by the Trump administration is set to impact millions by removing them from Medicaid and tightening eligibility for a federal food program affecting approximately 42 million Americans.

Economic Outlook

Regarding the current economic situation, a striking 62% of mothers surveyed reported that it is getting “a lot” or “a little” worse. The expiration of a freeze on student loan payments under the Trump administration has also led to defaults for over 4.2 million individuals between April 2025 and March 2026, according to an Associated Press analysis.
