Jay Antonia, 27, and her partner Joshua, 26, have shared their experience raising what are commonly known as 'Irish twins'—children born less than a year apart. Antonia discovered she was pregnant again just three months after giving birth to their first son, Teddy.

Antonia, who works in childcare, described the unexpected pregnancy as a "see what happens thing." Her partner, Joshua, was keen on a small age gap, believing it would foster closeness between their children, citing his own experience with a five-year gap between him and his sister.

Initially, Antonia expressed apprehension about the physical demands of another pregnancy so soon after giving birth and the prospect of her first son no longer being the baby. However, her second pregnancy was without morning sickness, unlike her first. She opted for a hypnobirth and was able to have a swift recovery.

Medical professionals did not raise concerns about the close spacing of the pregnancies, though Antonia noted that many were surprised by the news.

Now, her sons, Teddy and Albie, are described as "best friends." Antonia finds that their similar routines for eating, napping, and bedtime simplify some aspects of parenting. Joshua typically handles Teddy's evening routine while Antonia cares for Albie, who is still breastfed, with the couple supporting each other as needed. Despite the challenges, Antonia finds their bond makes the experience worthwhile.

Initially, Jay said she felt apprehensive about how her body would cope with another pregnancy so soon after giving birth, while also worrying about Teddy suddenly no longer being the baby

Antonia described Teddy as a "whirlwind and noisy" while Albie is more "emotional" but also "chill." She hopes they will grow up to be close friends as well as brothers, finding comfort in each other.

She encourages other parents considering a similar age gap, calling the experience of raising Irish twins "the hardest but best thing ever." Antonia expressed a desire for more children in the future, hoping for a daughter.
