Two years have passed since Danielle Lopez, 37, was last seen walking down Lost Lane in Penn State Forest, New Jersey, leaving her mother, Sue Quackenbush, in a persistent search for answers.

Lopez was last confirmed seen around 6 p.m. on April 13, 2024, by a couple who encountered her on Lost Lane while recording with a GoPro camera. The couple had met Lopez earlier that day around 4 p.m. when she asked for directions to Lake Oswego. At that time, Lopez was driving her 2008 blue Hyundai Accent. When the couple saw her again two hours later, she was on foot, explaining her car had become stuck in a muddy puddle and that she had been walking for 20 minutes. The couple did not offer assistance, stating they would check on her car and return, but they never did.

The footage from the GoPro is the last known sighting of Lopez. Earlier that day, around 9 a.m., surveillance cameras captured Lopez purchasing coffee at a Wawa and leaving with a smile.

Quackenbush reported her daughter missing on April 24, 2024, after 12 days without contact. Lopez and her mother had last spoken by phone on April 12, 2024.

Lopez had been staying with her boyfriend, James Scott Dunn, at a campground in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, approximately 16 miles north of Lost Lane. Dunn was later arrested on unrelated drug and theft charges and sentenced to five years in prison in October 2025, where he remains incarcerated.

In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer from prison, Dunn stated that he and Lopez had been experiencing homelessness before moving to the campground. He claimed he had been away for several days to pick up a motorcycle, visit friends, and stay in hotels. Upon his return on April 13, he found the campground in disarray and could not locate Lopez.

Dunn told Quackenbush that he last saw Lopez on April 16, three days after her last confirmed sighting. Quackenbush has stated that Dunn's account of events has changed multiple times, with him providing different dates for Lopez's departure from the campground and attributing her absence to different individuals in various versions of his story. Police have not named Dunn as a suspect or person of interest, nor has he been charged in connection with Lopez's disappearance.

Quackenbush has shared that her daughter struggled with alcohol addiction, which became more pronounced after the death of her oldest brother, Eric, by suicide in 2015. Her younger son, Michael, died in a car crash in 2016. Lopez's grandfather died in May 2020, and her father passed away the following month. Additionally, her rescue dog, Roscoe, had to be euthanized a few months before Lopez vanished.

Quackenbush maintains a memorial for her daughter on Lost Lane and has expressed a desire to have the road's name changed. She is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the discovery of her daughter.
