Mother of Two Dies After Cycling Collision; 80-Year-Old Driver Arrested
Family remembers Michelle Tiller, 44, as a joyful and caring individual following her death over two weeks after the incident.
A mother of two, Michelle Tiller, 44, has died after being struck by a car while cycling in Northampton. An 80-year-old man from Northampton has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has been released on police bail pending further investigation.
Tiller was riding her bicycle on Lindsay Avenue when the collision occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1. She was transported to University Hospital Coventry, where she passed away on Thursday, September 17, more than two weeks after the incident.
Her husband, Robert, described Tiller as "the kindest person you could ever hope to meet." He shared a tribute stating that Michelle loved their two sons, Riley, 20, and Cameron, 15, "with all her heart." The couple, who first met when they were 19, married in 2025 after 23 years together.
Robert Tiller recounted Michelle's lifelong passion for horses, which began at age 13. He noted that horses were an integral part of her identity, not merely a hobby. He further characterized her as supportive, patient, and endlessly caring, always prioritizing others and serving as a source of help and comfort. He also highlighted her enthusiasm for singing and dancing, bringing happiness wherever she went.
He also spoke of Michelle's dedication to their family, stepping up to assist him with his own disabilities while continuing to work in supported living and caregiving roles. Despite her many responsibilities, she managed the stables she loved and maintained her fitness by cycling everywhere.
The couple shared a particularly close bond with their Springer Spaniel, Luna, with the dog even accompanying them on their honeymoon and an anniversary trip. They competed together in an agility competition this year.
Messages from friends and acquaintances have consistently described Tiller as warm, friendly, and joyful, emphasizing the positive impact she had on their lives and her unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Robert Tiller expressed that his wife was his best friend, partner, and greatest supporter, and that he only wishes they had more years together to fulfill her dream of growing old side-by-side.
Michelle Tiller is also survived by her parents, Jim and Glennis, and her sisters, Maxine and Natalie. Northampton Police are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
