A mother of four died after being stabbed in the back and subsequently collapsing in the street, according to reports. Charlene Dowsell, 41, was allegedly attacked on the night of July 18 near Newport County's football stadium in Wales.
Albert Williams, 66, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court charged with Ms. Dowsell's murder. He confirmed his name and date of birth but did not enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for January 2027. Williams was remanded in custody by the Recorder of Cardiff, Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, and is scheduled to appear in court again next month.
In a statement, Ms. Dowsell's family described her as a "beautiful daughter" and "mum of 4 beautiful children" who has left them heartbroken. They expressed shock and grief, stating that time would not heal the pain of losing her at a young age, noting she was the "foundation" of their family.
A court was previously informed that Ms. Dowsell was stabbed in the back and that she pulled the knife out herself before collapsing. Gwent Police stated that specially trained firearms officers responded to reports of an altercation in the early hours of the morning.
Detective Superintendent Matt Sedgebeer confirmed that investigations are ongoing and a significant police presence remains in the area. He appealed for anyone with information to contact the police and asked the public not to speculate about the case online due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
