Tameca Erving, the mother of 18-year-old Daniel Erving, stated Tuesday that police hung up on her when she called to report her son missing, describing the incident as she and her family announced they have retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
Daniel Erving, an honor roll student, disappeared on April 13. His mother said he left behind his identification, social security card, and money. According to Erving, she “pleaded with” the police to investigate his disappearance, but they disconnected her call.
"So just imagine, as a mother, or a parent, calling someone to help you save your child, and they hang up the telephone in your face," Tameca Erving said at a press conference held at a Dallas church.
The Rowlett Police Department has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Lucas Roper, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile have been charged with tampering with physical evidence. Authorities allege they discarded Daniel Erving's belongings and deleted information from his cellphone.
Speaking about the two individuals who were with her son, Tameca Erving referred to them as "wolves in sheep's clothing."
