A 23-year-old woman died and her 5-month-old daughter was hospitalized in critical condition following a fall from a 15th-story balcony in the Bronx.
A 23-year-old woman died and her 5-month-old daughter was critically injured Tuesday after they fell 15 stories from an apartment building in the Bronx. The incident occurred at approximately 3:38 a.m. outside 2550 Olinville Ave.
The infant is being treated at Jacobi Hospital, while her mother was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and sources.
Investigators are considering the possibility that the mother and child were thrown from the balcony, neighbors told police. Authorities have identified a person of interest, though no further details were immediately released.
A tenant told WABC News that they heard a woman yelling, "Please don't do this!" before witnessing an object fall to the ground.
Photos from the scene show a baby's diaper and a white blanket on the ground outside the building, which was cordoned off by police tape as the investigation continued.
