Angharad Williamson, convicted of murdering her five-year-old son Logan Mwangi, is seeking a review of her conviction from the body that investigates potential miscarriages of justice. Williamson was sentenced to life in prison in June 2022, with a minimum term of 28 years, for the murder of her son. Logan's stepfather, John Cole, received a minimum sentence of 29 years, and a teenager, Craig Mulligan, who was 14 at the time of the murder, was given a minimum of 15 years.
Williamson appeared via video link at a hearing at Pontypridd Coroner's Court where a date for Logan's inquest was set for November of this year. This inquest will take place more than six years after the murder.
Logan's body was discovered in the River Ogmore near his home in Sarn, Bridgend county, in July 2021. Cardiff Crown Court had previously heard that the attack on the boy, who weighed approximately 20 kilograms (3 stone 1 pound), was described as "nothing short of horrifying." He suffered 56 external injuries and catastrophic internal damage.
Tony Thompson, a former superintendent with the British Transport Police, is currently conducting a review of Williamson's conviction. Mulligan, who is not Cole's biological son but had been raised by him since he was nine months old, was 13 at the time of the murder and is now 18.
