Mother Charged in Double Homicide at Poconos Resort
Authorities are investigating a possible motive for the alleged murders of her husband and young son.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide for allegedly stabbing her husband, Charles Harrison, and their 3-year-old son, Tristan, to death at the Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, Pennsylvania. Harrison was booked on the charges Tuesday, one day after the alleged killings.
According to police, Harrison called 911 shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, confessing to the murders and subsequently asking for assistance in taking her own life. A criminal complaint states she told the 911 operator she was "too weak to stab my neck" and that the knives she had "were not working." She also reportedly said, "my husband and son are already gone in the bed… They’re already gone, I’m sorry."
When authorities arrived at the resort, they found Harrison with cuts to her wrists and neck. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her husband was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the chest, and her son sustained a single stab wound to the chest. A large butcher knife and a smaller knife were found in the bathroom, along with suspected blood and various medications.
Investigators searched the family's home in Towanda, approximately two hours north of the resort, on Wednesday. The search warrant application indicated that authorities hoped the investigation at the house would "reveal valuable evidence relating to the motive for this incident as well as recover evidence connecting the knife used at the crime scene to other items." Police seized nearly a dozen knives, a safe, a journal, a financial notebook, a laptop, and other items from the residence.
The family had checked into the Great Wolf Lodge on September 21 and extended their stay on October 5. Reports suggest that Metallica Rose Harrison had allegedly drained her husband's 401(k) to fund the trip.
