Mother and Son Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide in Indianapolis
Police are investigating the deaths of a mother and her 9-year-old son, who were found with gunshot wounds in their apartment.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers discovered the bodies of Shatayvia Alisha Calderon, 33, and Julian Calderon, 9, inside an apartment on Monday afternoon.
Authorities believe Calderon shot her son before taking her own life, a police spokesperson told The Post. The incident is being treated as a murder-suicide.
"This is unthinkable. And we’re here to not only investigate, but to provide resources, as well. Not only here on scene, but in the days, weeks that follow this," Officer Drew Brown stated.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting two individuals had been shot in a condominium complex in the 4400 block of Village Lane shortly after 1 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the mother and son deceased at the scene. A firearm was also recovered.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the deaths is ongoing. Authorities have indicated they are interviewing a cooperative witness.
